  • Do not publish the work of others as your own (including youtube clips or google images)

Barnsley Local Authority Pupil Rules for Internet Use

Pupils are responsible for good behaviour on the Internet just as they are in a classroom – general school rules apply. Access to the Barnsley Learning Network is a privilege not a right and it is provided for pupils to conduct research and communicate with others. Pupils should not expect that their files would always be private, computer storage areas may be reviewed by staff to ensure that the system is being used responsibly. The rules for responsible network use are shown below:

  • I will only access the network with my own login and password
  • I will keep my password secret
  • I will not read, modify or delete other users files
  • I will only use the network computers for school work and homework
  • I will ask permission from a member of staff before using the Internet
  • I will only email people I know, or my teacher has approved
  • The messages I send will be polite and responsible
  • I will not give my home address or telephone number to anyone who contacts me over the network
  • I will not arrange to meet anyone who I have contacted over the network, unless my parent, carer or teachers has given permission
  • I will report any unpleasant messages sent to me. This would be confidential and would help to protect other children and myself
  • I understand that the LEA/School can check my computer files
  • I understand that the LEA/School can check the Internet sites I visit
  • I understand that the LEA/School can check the email messages I send and receive

Sanctions I understand that if I break any of the rules I can be temporarily or permanently banned from network use. Additional action may be taken in line with school rules on inappropriate language or behaviour When appropriate, police or local authorities may be involved.
